Talent4Health is seeking a travel nurse RN ICU - Intensive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Quincy, Illinois.

Required Certifications

ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS RN License and Covid card and references 

 

Required Experience & Skills:

  • Must have recent experience in a Level I or Level II Trauma Center
  • Must have experience working in facilities with 300+ beds
  • Preferred Skills:
    • CRRT experience highly preferred
    • Experience with sheath removal preferred
    • Proficient in titrating drips and critical care interventions

 

 

ICU – 2nd Floor (MICU/SICU)

Unit Overview:
This is a high-acuity Intensive Care Unit encompassing both Medical ICU (MICU) and some Surgical ICU (SICU) patients. The unit is located on the second floor and supports a wide variety of critical care needs.

  • Number of Beds: 16
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2
  • Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
  • Scrub Color/Dress Code: Black

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses:

The unit cares for a diverse range of critical care patients, including but not limited to:

  • Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT – Prismaflex)
  • Rotaprone Therapy
  • Targeted Temperature Management (TTM – Arctic Sun)
  • Mass transfusions (MTP)
  • Paralysis management with Train of Four monitoring
  • ECMO (occasionally)
  • 24-hour EEG monitoring
  • Neurosurgical patients (EVDs, LP drains)
  • Spinal injuries
  • Traumatic injuries (e.g., drownings, motor vehicle accidents, tractor rollovers, fractures)
  • Sepsis, DKA, post-op recovery, COVID-19
  • Post-heart catheterization (including sheath removal)
  • Suicide ideation (SI)
  • Bedside procedures: tracheostomies, chest tube insertions, bronchoscopy, arterial line placement
  • Organ recovery (procurement only – no transplants performed)

 

Clinical Operations:

  • Common Drips (Titrated/Set-Rate):
    • Vasopressors
    • Sedatives (e.g., Precedex)
    • Antiarrhythmics
    • Other common ICU medications
  • Drip Management: All RNs are expected to titrate critical care drips per protocol.
  • Support Services:
    • Intensivist/Hospitalist: On-site 24/7 (includes physicians and nurse practitioners)
    • Respiratory Therapy (RT): In-house 24/7 and dedicated to ICU/PCU
    • Monitor Techs: Available; RNs are still required to interpret their own strips (Monitors: Draeger)
    • Nurse Aides: Available with appropriate ratios

Staffing & Scheduling:

  • Shifts: 3 x 12-hour shifts (07:00 start time)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
  • Holiday Requirement: Participation in the core staff rotation

Floating Policy:

  • Floating is rare but may occur.
  • May float to PCU or CVICU – may take a patient assignment if competent, but typically will act in a "help all" capacity.

Leadership & Support:

  • Charge Nurse:
    • Day shift typically led by a dedicated staff charge nurse
    • Night shift may be led by the house supervisor, who generally carries a reduced assignment to assist staff

Orientation & Onboarding:

  • Unit-Specific Orientation: One 12-hour shift on the unit and shift of hire
  • General Orientation: 12–14-hour first day to complete competencies, computer-based training modules, and general onboarding requirements
