The Staff Chaplain provides pastoral counseling and spiritual support to patients, family members/significant others and staff throughout the hospital. Usually this involves development of a "parish" within the hospital. The chaplain actively serves as a member of an ecumenical pastoral care staff sharing in activities such as staff meetings, on call responsibilities, and providing hospital wide worship experiences. Responsibilities include: providing ongoing, hands on ministry to patients, families and staff including counseling, prayer, sacramental ministry, response to "codes" and educating and assisting patients with advance directives; sharing rotation of all "on-call" responsibilities; participating as a member of hospital interdisciplinary teams and serving on both Pastoral Care department and general hospital wide committees; attending Pastoral Care staff meetings and retreats; supporting and performing responsibilities related to the hospital decedent care program including grief counseling and assisting nursing and medical staff in completing necessary paperwork; serving as contact person or liaison between local clergy, patients, families and staff; participating in policy development, strategic planning, and evaluation of and for the Pastoral Care Department; assisting in responding to requests for workshops, lectures, etc. from the hospital, church and community; sharing responsibilities for providing a variety of worship services as appropriate, including memorial services. Minimum qualifications include a Master's Degree, COA - Certificate of Authority as CNS - State of Ohio, CPE - Clinical Pastoral Education, and two years ministry experience with at least one year in a hospital setting. Scheduled weekly hours are 24, day shift. Department: Pastoral Care.
