Position Summary

The Life Skills Coach is responsible for delivering individualized behavioral and instructional support to learners by implementing personalized treatment plans, collecting and analyzing progress data, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams. Ensure program fidelity, regulatory compliance, and ethical standards through consistent documentation, professional development, and active participation in team meetings and evaluations. Responsibilities also include transporting individuals safely, maintaining organized records for Medicaid billing, and supporting skill development across communication, daily living, and vocational domains.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Collaborate in the creation and ongoing adjustment of personalized instruction and treatment plans tailored to each individual's unique needs.
  • Develop clear, objective response definitions and data collection methods to monitor progress and adjust programs as necessary.
  • Consistently implement daily activity schedules and intervention strategies, ensuring fidelity to each individual's program.
  • Accurately collect, summarize, and analyze data related to each individual's progress, maintaining up-to-date records and graphs.
  • Participate in regular program reviews to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Contribute to external evaluations by providing necessary data and cooperating with evaluators.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities, including staff meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
  • Maintain open communication with colleagues, sharing insights on individual progress and contributing to a collaborative team environment.
  • Safely transport individuals to community activities, appointments, and work placements as required, ensuring adherence to safety and program guidelines.
  • Provide direct support to learners in all areas of instructions, including language, daily living, self-care, and work-related skills
  • Complete and submit progress notes to ensure timely Medicaid billing.
  • Participate in all required trainings as specified by the Division of Development Disabilities.
  • Maintain organized and accurate records of all program-related activities, including timesheets, receipts, and other documentation.
  • Ensure program compliance with professional standards and ethical guidelines.
  • Adhere to guidelines established by governing agencies (Division of Developmental Disabilities, Office of Licensing) and interact with agency representatives as needed.
  • Participate in all required meetings, fostering a team approach, and collaborating with colleagues to ensure consistent implementation of intervention procedures.
  • Maintain an orderly, clean and attractive workplace, including keeping equipment and materials in good condition and requesting repair or replacement when necessary.

  • Ability to foster and maintain professional relationships with colleagues, program personnel, consumers, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to uphold the highest ethical standards in all interactions, ensuring confidentiality and protecting the privacy of individuals and their families.

Education and Experience

  • High school or equivalent. A degree in psychology, education, or a related field is preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience that meets the requirements of the position.
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is highly desirable.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Criminal history check, including fingerprinting, central registry, child abuse registry checks, exclusionary and motor vehicle history checks is required.
  • 4-panel drug testing at hire and at random after hire is required.
  • A valid driver’s license is required for the transportation of individuals to various activities and appointments.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

The Life Skills Coach position requires physical activity, including assisting individuals with transportation, participating in community-based activities, and managing instructional materials. The role involves working in various environments, including residential settings, community spaces, and outdoor activities. The position requires lifting up to 40 pounds, standing for extended periods, and adapting to different work settings to meet the needs of the individuals served. The work environment is dynamic and may require quick adaptation to changing circumstances.
